CDR to team up with the UCB!

cdr_logo4.jpgITEM! Exciting changes are afoot this July, as Comedy Death-Ray, Los Angeles' premier stand-up showcase, teams up with the new Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre!

After almost three years at popular nightspot M Bar, CDR will move to the new theatre space, formerly the Tamarind, located on Franklin Blvd. underneath the Hollywood sign.

The new, intimate 92-seat theatre environment will offer Death-Ray the opportunity to incorporate a greater amount of sketch elements into the traditional stand-up format. Expect to see more experimentation, more pushing the envelope, while still offering the country's best comic performers a place to shine!

The time and night remain the same -- Tuesdays at 8:30. The cover will remain the most reasonably priced in town -- $5. The parking situation will actually be easier, as valets (for only $3.50) will be stationed. If you prefer to park for free, there are ample street spaces in the surrounding neighborhood.

The first show at UCB will be July 12th -- "The Fun Bunch 10th Anniversary Show." This special inaugural performance, celebrating Death-Ray creators Scott Aukerman & BJ Porter's first decade as a comedy team, will also feature guests Bob Odenkirk, Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Doug Benson, Jimmy Pardo & Andy Kindler.

The following week, July 19, "Best Week Ever's" Doug Benson returns with CDR mainstay The Benson Interruption, with special guests to be announced.

We hope you'll be just as excited as we are for the new space. We would also like to thank Joe Reynolds and the staff of M Bar for almost three fantastic, groundbreaking years.

In the meantime, we hope you'll check out our last two shows before the move. June 21st Brody Stevens hosts, with special guests Zach Galifianakis, Sarah Silverman, Demetri Martin, Doug Benson, Andy Kindler, Greg Proops and more! And on June 28th, Jimmy Pardo hosts a very special "Last M Bar Show" edition of Running Your Trap, with special guests dropping in all night!

Comedy Death-Ray, Tuesdays at 8:30pm. $5 cover. The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre is located at 5919 Franklin Blvd., near Beachwood Canyon. Formerly the Tamarind, it sits adjacent to six restaurants, a newsstand, several stores and a coffee shop. Valet parking available, for $3.50.

LA Weekly Comedy Death-Ray Review

cdr_logo4.jpg

In today's LA Weekly, there is an article about places to go in LA for comedy, and wouldn't you know it, Comedy Death-Ray is on top! Here is the relevant passage...

The show: Comedy Death Ray, with a bunch of hotshots and others demanding your reservation. Scott Aukerman started the show as a reaction to Largo’s “same people every week.”

Where/when: M Bar, 1253 N. Vine St., Hlywd. (323) 856-0036; every Tues., 9 p.m.

Cost: $5.

Sez Andrew: “The best comics working today.”

Parking stress factor: High! Small lot fills up early. Pollo Loco tows. No valet on Tues., so get there early or expect to drive around the streets a lot.

Best-case scenario: David Cross doing a surprise 20-minute set dressed as a rabbi. Possible appearances by Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Silverman, Patton Oswalt, Louis C.K., Kevin Nealon. Booker Aukerman always includes up-and-comers he’s excited about: Paul Rust, Morgan Murphy, Ian Edward, Dan Mintz. Theme shows like the Sci-Fi Fantasy Pageant and Doug Benson’s Interruption.

Worst-case scenario: Aukerman: “Anyone can bomb. And the lock to the men’s bathroom doesn’t work.”

scott-recaplet-main.jpg

Hey ho, chums! So the class I'll be teaching at the new LA Upright Citizen's Brigade Theatre went onsale late last night, and by the time I woke up, it was sold out. I hope everyone who wanted to get in did, and if not, maybe I'll do another one after this eight weeks is done.

In the meantime, remember that you all are stars in the eyes of the people who love you! Unless no one does, and then you are shit.

Some Cake Boy Reviews

cover120.jpg

Reviews of Scott & BJ's upcoming straight-to-DVD "classic," CAKE BOY, are pouring in from across the globe...

"...Needless to say I didn't have high expectations going into this. Boy was I wrong... My thoughts are that this was an impressive movie that held a plot, made me laugh, and in the times of Napoleon Dynamite, I can't find a reason why this won't become a cult classic as well. If you have ever been to a Warped Tour in your life then you need to check this out and then show it to your friends who aren't into punk and they will love it to [sic]."
--JK, Allageszine.com

"...I was not terribly entertained. The film just meandered from scene to scene, never really giving me a reason to care about them. There is a goofy attraction to the film, for as nonplussed as I was, there were some funny lines in it, mainly from Scott Aukerman as Mickey the band manager."
--Draven99, blogcritics.org

"...Fitzgerald showed he knew how to write a good script, not just a good pop-punk tune; and he didn't want to stop there. His acting, although it isn't great, it is better then a lot of the actors Hollywood spits out. You also get some cameos from people like Escalante, Patton Oswalt of King Of Queens, Brian Posehn of Just Shoot Me and even Bob Odenkirk and Scott Aukerman of Mr Show..."
--Bobby Gorman, thepunksite.com

"... i have seen some bad stuff in my life but this crap is just that...crap... kids...save your money...make your own "film" (video) and show it to your friends, i guarantee, in advance, that not only will it be better than this, ten-fold, but you will probably have more fun making it that watching this dump in a box."

Scott Aukerman to Appear on IFC Reservoir Dogs Tribute

Saw it -- it kind of sucks. But if you still want to see it, I noticed it will be replayed throughout the month.

Friday night, June 3rd, at 10:30 EST (7:30 p.m. PST), I will appear on the prestigious IFC Channel in a documentary about the movie Reservoir Dogs, brilliantly titled "Reservoir Dogs Revisited."

Apparently, I am a famous comedian. So of course they wanted my opinion about this movie, the first to be directed by the loudmouth helmer of the CSI finale. I think I ramble on and on about stupid shit which will most likely infuriate you and make you hate your TV.

For more about this program, please go to IFC
